Institutional Scholarship

August 10, 2018 - American Indian Educator Mentor Program - UG

The American Indian Educator Mentor Program (AIEMP) was established to recruit and build a retention support network for New Mexico American Indian undergraduate students pursuing a teaching degree in elementary or secondary education. In addition, AIEMP was established to assist in building the internal capacity of New Mexico tribes to develop their own cadre of local Native teachers who are prepared to contribute to the academic support and successful completion of education for New Mexico Native American students.

Through a generous gift from Sandia Labs, AIEMP is offering five scholarships ($500) each for the 2018 fall semester. The scholarship can be applied toward tuition and fees. In addition, recipients of this award will have an opportunity to be mentored by exemplary certified teachers at the Native American Community Academy for a minimum of one-hour on a bi-weekly basis for one academic semester.

Please complete the application and submit a brief statement (100 – 250 words) on how a mentorship with an exemplary certified teacher of Native American students can benefit you as a preservice education student.

Deadline: August 10, 2018 at 5 p.m. Submit your application to Professor Glenabah Martinez by email (glenie@unm.edu) or drop it off at her office in Hokona Hall 206. Click here to apply.
