2024 Outstanding American Indian Student Service Award
The Outstanding American Indian Student Service Award commends Native students at The University of New Mexico-Main Campus committed to serving the community at large. Recognition is based on applicant accomplishment and achievement in the areas of leadership, participation in campus activities and organization, academics, and service to Native organizations and tribal communities. Award recipients will be recognized during The University of New Mexico's Annual Recognition event on Friday, April 26, 2024.
ELIGIBILITY CRITERIA
- Current full-time enrollment (12 credit hours undergraduate / 9 credit hours graduate) at The University of New Mexico-Main Campus
- Enrolled member of a federally or state recognized tribe(s)
ALL COMPLETED NOMINATION AND SELF-NOMINATION PACKETS MUST INCLUDE:
- Student Personal Narrative (1-page minimum) describing:
- Academic accomplishments and achievements
- Participation in UNM and/or tribal community organizations and initiatives
- Awards, scholarships, and/or recognition received
- DO NOT attach a resume
- Certificate of Indian Blood (CIB)/Proof of Tribal Enrollment
- Completed Information Form
- One Letter of Recommendation with corresponding Nomination Form provided by UNM faculty, staff, administrators, students, alumni, tribal community members, or a Native organization (Additional Letters of Recommendation are encouraged: Refer to guidelines below)
LETTER OF RECOMMENDATION GUIDELINES:
- Minimum 1-page statement describing why the student is deserving of the Outstanding American Indian Student Service Award
- Length of time and capacity (personal, professional, academic, etc.) the nominator has known the student
- Knowledge of student's academic performance, campus activities, leadership, and tribal community service
- Completed Nomination Form (must accompany Letter of Recommendation)
